A trip to experience the traditional crafts of Hawaii Island, surrounded by the natural beauty of Hawaii
Let's make an ancient artistic percussion instrument, the Ipu
The Ipu is a type of gourd that was brought from the Polynesian homeland as a traditional plant. The Ipuheke, a percussion instrument made from the Ipu, plays an important role in Hawaiian hula dancing and is indispensable for the classical hula dance known as Hula Kahiko.
We have prepared a program where you can learn how to create patterns on the surface of this traditional Hawaiian craft, "Ipu ole."
The lecturer will be Michael Harburg, an Ipu artist who owns the Ipu Hale Gallery and has exhibited and sold his work in numerous art galleries in the Hawaiian Islands. The two-day program will cover how the gourds grown from seeds at Banyan Bridge have become Ipu
You will learn how to transform the ole into a piece of Ipu and how to apply patterns to it with your own hands. Why not take this rare opportunity to experience the art of Ipu and experience the traditional crafts of Hawaii?
During your two-day nature program, you will have free time to explore the grounds of Banyan Bridge.
You can also enjoy fresh juice made from fruits grown in Hawaii and snacks made from macadamia nuts harvested within Banyan Bridge. Please experience this special program that will heal your mind and body.
[Notes]
・Due to process constraints, we will make the final adjustments (dyeing, drying, etc.) here.
The completed work will be delivered individually to your home.
